WORK PERMITS
All students under the age of 18 must have work permits if they are employed (babysitting and yard work do not require a work permit). Students must have a 2.0 GPA to have work permits approved. There are many opportunities for students interested in volunteering year round. Here are some links to organizations that use volunteers - please contact them directly:

Peer Pal for the Community Coaching Center:

  • Interact with the participants of the program after school or on Saturdays
  • Join participants on community outings such as bowling, museums, parks, etc. or Home Base activities like baking or art projects
  • Be a good Role Model to kids who have Autism Spectrum Disorders – show them first hand what it looks like to be a friend

The Community Coaching Center (CCC) focuses on behavioral, social skill development, transitioning, and skill generalization in a variety of "real life" environments and social arenas for children and teens with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Requirements for the Peer Pal Program is that the student is capable of arriving to CCC no later than 3:00 P.M. and plan on departing around 6:00 P.M and on weekdays arriving by 11:00 A.M. and departing at 5:00 P.M. on Saturdays and be prepared for a day of fun and learning. The Peer Pal program will give the Volunteer student the opportunity to:

  • Interact with school aged children on the Autism Spectrum.
  • Join program participants on community outings such as bowling, museums, restaurants, parks, etc.
  • Have Fun
  • Become a positive role model to kids who have Autism Spectrum disorders

You can download the “Peer Pal Packet” to see what the program entails and the truly wonderful children we get to work with.

The City of San Diego WAVE Program is recruiting youth ages 15+ for their Pool Lifeguard training! This program offers courses to qualify as an entry-level lifeguard. Each selected participant will complete a series of classes on Saturdays and some Sundays. Tryouts for the program will be held at City Heights Swim Center, 4380 Landis Street, San Diego on Saturday, October 11th at 9:00 am. Pre-registration is not required, simply show up dressed to swim! Students must be at least 15 years old as of 11/02/08. Requirements include the ability to swim 300 yards continuously and complete a short written exam. The program fee is $50.00 (scholarships are available). Questions?
