IHOBF has donated its time to Clairemont High through participation in the Career Fair & Senior Exhibition Presentation Panel Committee and has provided quality off-site educational experiences for teachers & students throughout the County. IHOBF programs are of no cost to public schools within the San Diego Unified School District.

The International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) is dedicated to bringing the arts to schools and communities through programs that promote cultural understanding and creative expression. Since its inception in 1993, the IHOBF has reached thousands of students and teachers through programs offered to schools and community organizations in IHOBF locations nationwide.

Our core program, Blues SchoolHouse, transforms House of Blues venues into multimedia classrooms where 5th through 12th grade students and their teachers learn about the music, history and cultural impact of the blues and the traditions of related folk art.

The program includes a guided tour of the House of Blues Folk Art collection and a live musical presentation tracing the history of blues music from its roots in African musical traditions, through its emergence and evolution as a unique American folk music and its influence on other forms of popular contemporary music including jazz, R&B, rock and roll, soul, funk and rap.

The performance demonstrates how the blues musical form was influenced by and reflects events in African American history including the Atlantic Slave Trade, the institution of slavery, emancipation, Jim Crow laws, the Great Migration and the Civil Rights Movement. Participating teachers are provided with a Blues SchoolHouse Classroom Guide designed to supplement their visit.

In addition to IHOBF core programs, each IHOBF location also offers special educational and cultural programs and activities, including annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. events, teacher workshops and visiting artist programs.
