Jean
Farb Middle School is named in honor of Mrs. Jean Farb.
Mrs.
Jean Farb was a native of Washington, but lived in San Diego for
thirty-four years where she was active in many civic organizations.
Mrs.
Farb and her husband were named Honorary Members of the Friends
of Mercy, in recognition of their many contributions to Mercy Hospital.
Mrs. Farb was an active member of the Mercy Hospital Auxilary, and
achieved the status of "Life Member." In October,
1971, she served as co-chair of the Mercy Ball & Art Auction,
Mercy Hospital's primary annual fund-raiser. In 1972 she served
as Patrons Chair of the Mercy Ball, in 1973, as Printing Chair,
and in 1974 as Invitations Chair.
Mrs.
Farb was active in a number of other community organizations, including
the Women's Association of the Salk Institute, Mercy Ball Advisory
Committee, Women's Division of the United Jewish Foundation, and
Salvation Army's Auxiliary for the Door of Hope. Mrs. Farb received
several awards for her leadership in these charities.
Mrs.
Farb was a caring, generous humanitarian and a fine example for
all our students.
