The
staff at Jean Farb Middle School embrace the philosophy
that students make their best progress in an atmosphere where academic
achievement is a priority and where students are physically and
psychologically safe from harm and are responsible for their behavior.
Staff strive to provide a place where people are courteous, where
there are reasonable rules, and where open communication is practiced
among students, staff, and parents. The entire staff has a share
in the guidance of every pupil in the school, whether or not that
pupil is assigned to that teacher. This approach creates the "Farb
Family" feeling and gives students, staff, and parents a sense
of belonging. Farb's teaching staff is strong and supportive of
making changes that support student achievement. Defining high academic
standards and creating a learning environment that promotes success
for all students is our focus.
Our
school goals include increasing the amount of reading and writing
in all classes, as well as the use of manipulatives and replacement
units and the incorporation of writing and problem-solving skills
in mathematics classes; developing schoolwide multicultural activities
to foster student awareness of cultural differences, increasing
positive peer relationships, and expanding our program of parent
involvement; and initiating alternative ways to assess student achievement
to make the process more authentic and product-oriented.
