Readers' Workshop: The students in room 7 will be utilizing text features to navigate through a nonfiction book. The children will learn how to "drive" through a nonfiction text by using these special text features that authors place in their expository texts. The children will also have to share how they used these text features to find specific information and they will be resposible for restating information in their own words.
Writers' Workshop: The children will be writing friendly letters, nonfiction narratives, procedual texts, and writing a a handful of responces to literature throughout the month of September and October.
Math: The children will be solving addition and subraction problems in a variety of ways. The children will be sharing how they solve mathematical problems using a handful of strategies. Please ask your child to show you different ways to solve a math problem. It is important that your child knows their math facts up to 20 without using their fingers. You can play dice games or use flash cards to help them memorize their facts.
Science: The children in room 7 are transforming into geologist and studying the different properties of rocks. We will be looking at volcanic rock samples, river rocks, and discussing how boulders will eventually erode into tiny particles of clay.
Social Studies: The children are learning about what life was like in the past. We have also been sharing interesting artifacts, family traditions, and sharing amazing information about our families history.
Health: We will begin our study on the humqan body. We will be taking a close look at our brain and how our major organs work to keep our body healthy and strong. We will be learning how our respitory and our digestive system work. We will also be learning how the brain stem, cerebrum, and cerabelum work too.
Physiclal Education: During the month or October we are learning how to be good sports and how to strategically play kickball.
