Make the selection of books you read a joint effort. It is important to keep in mind your child's interests and his/her abilities. |
Select books from various places; old favorites from home, public library, borrow from a friend or neighbor, purchase from used book stores , garage sales, buy a new book, or order books from a book club. |
Selecting the same book over and over again is fine. We call them "old favorites." |
When you read select book that are above your child's reading ability to challenge their listening skills, introduce them to good literature and build their vocabulary. |
When you have your child read, select books at his/her independent level.
Encourage your child to track with their finger and don't forget to "picture walk." |
