Kindergarten Sight Words:
Sight words are those ever so common high frequency words we see in all the sentences we read. They are the connecting words that unfortunately can't be illustrated. There are nine sets of words with about 24 site words on each list. If your child is having difficulty learning a word(s), don't be discouraged. Many children at this age may not be developmentally ready for learning many of these words.
There are a variety of ways to use these cards so that they are useful and fun for your child to practice.
- Search, listen, and find Use a word or words to look for in a text. This may be a book you are reading or simply a page or paragraph, where your child is looking and listening for the word as you read.
- Keep it if you know it Show your child the word. If they know it, let them keep it. If they miss it, put it back in your review pile. Object: The child wants to get as many cards as he/she can in his/her pile.
- Memory Make a second set of these cards and play memory with your child. Object: Try to get the most matches
- Use it in a sentence Say the word and try to independently use it in a sentence orally.
Come up with your own, new creative way to use the words at home to help your child become familiar with the words as well as have fun.
