DWA-Student team news
Hello from your DWA Student Information Systems Team!
As of June 9, 2003, the Pilot Schools for the project have completed training and have begun to use Zangle in the production environment.
In the next few weeks the pilot schools will be completing some initial set-up information and then will proceed to develop master schedules for the fall term. Enrollment will now be completed in Zangle; this will go on throughout the summer.
For the DWA-SIS team our focus is now directed toward pilot school on-site support as they begin to use Zangle and then toward the training of central office users to meet their need to view pilot school data in Zangle throughout the fall term. Program development is on schedule for the next release of Zangle that will include the English Learner module on the first of August. Pilot schools will use this module for the opening of school as new and continuing English Learner students begin the new year. When pilot site staff returns in August, our trainers will present information on attendance procedures and train all teachers at the sites in the use of TeacherConnection, Zangle’s web-based program for teachers to take attendance and manage student grades.
4GL School Solutions, our special education information system, has announced that SDCS will be the second district in the country to implement their latest version of their SETS product, now called “Encore.” This is a significant change for 4GL to a fully web-based environment. Other development aspects of the project are on time with the completion in July of the SDCS online special ed forms that will be used in the fall pilot. Training on Encore will proceed near the end of September as scheduled with pilot schools and Special Ed central office staff.
Have a great summer break and we will be sharing more information about the SIS project in the months ahead,

DWA-Human Resources team news
Hello from the District Wide Applications Human Resource Services Project Team (DWA-HR)!
Team is Finalizing:
The DWA-HR project team members are working diligently to complete the Solution
Development phase. Team members, including the subject matter experts from
each division, will take part in the final review being held at the Roosevelt
Training Center the week of June 9th. The session’s agendas/timeframe
notification will go out to team members on June 2nd for scheduling needs
throughout the department.
Right Around the Corner:
We are excited about the System Test Planning phase beginning on June 16th
and continuing through the end of June. This is a “think-tank”
phase where HR team members brainstorm, analyze, discuss and document scenarios
and/or conditions that may affect PeopleSoft system processing. All these
situations will be the basis for “Script Writing” used in the
actual System Testing phase beginning in mid July.
Training Sessions:
The DWA Change Management/Training team members are nearing completion of
the course curriculum documentation for the HR PeopleSoft implementation training.
Planning is in the works for logistics of training class times and continuous
support of these applications. Look for the very first Introduction to
PeopleSoft mandatory overview. This course will introduce end users to
the basics of the PeopleSoft application. Then onward and upward!
Timekeepers Simulation workshop:
A timekeeping simulation was held at the Roosevelt Training Center on May
15th, which included a core group of experienced district timekeepers. The
session was a positive experience for team members and timekeepers alike.
The session offered insight into the new electronic Time and Labor reporting
process and some of the improvements the PeopleSoft application will provide
district staff in order to improve the way we currently do business. There
was quite a bit of enthusiasm from all the participants. We have been receiving
some feedback and suggestions on further improvements to the process. This
reinforces the fact that PeopleSoft is the tool for our business process improvements,
but our people will be the real reason for the success.
The HR team commitment is to inform you, involve you, support you and succeed with you. Enjoy the summer months – don’t go too far – District Wide Applications is on the way!

Finance June/July update
Hello from the District Wide Applications Finance Project Team
Team is Finalizing:
The Finance DWA project team members are working to complete the Solution
Development phase. Team members, including the subject matter experts, are
reviewing the To-Be Processes for final system configuration. This documentation
will also assist with the training.
Right Around the Corner:
We are excited about the System Test Planning phase beginning in mid-June
and continuing through the end of June. Situations will be created and will
be the basis for “Script Writing” used in the actual System Testing
phase beginning in mid-July.
Ongoing Activities:
The project managers continue to meet with the Principal’s Advisory
group to discuss business process changes. The principals continue to provide
valuable information and insight from a school site administrator’s
perspective that is key to the success of the project.
Training Sessions:
The DWA Change Management/Training team members are nearing completion of
the course curriculum documentation for the Finance PeopleSoft implementation
training. Planning is in the works for the logistics of training class times,
class locations and continuous support of these applications. The Finance
Division will offer an “Introduction to PeopleSoft Financials”
overview in June. This course will introduce the finance staff to the basics
of the PeopleSoft application. The overview will be available to the entire
district in a couple of months. School site training schedules were sent out
with the detailed information about mandatory course descriptions and calendars
of when classes are available. (This information is also available on the
PeopleSoft Training page
of the DWA web site.) Call Anna Marie Villegas for more training information
at 619-260-5436.
The Finance DWA Team appreciates the support seen district-wide by all staff. Together we will make this implementation a success!
