DWA Support
San Diego City Schools is committed to providing the support required to make the DWA project successful. This includes comprehensive employee training, enhanced help desk operations, and infrastructure improvements to support the DWA.
Training
A group of resource teachers and experienced trainers are dedicated to developing a training program customized for San Diego City Schools to prepare employees to use the new DWA applications and adapt to new business processes. As DWA training courses and training schedules are developed they will be posted on the Training page of this web site. Until that time, please check the Training page for things you can do now to get ready for the DWA.
Help desk
As the district moves to all new business systems and processes, the help desk will be changing, too. The help desk is implementing Remedy software to assist in managing calls and improving response time to district employees. In addition, they are changing the way they do business to improve service. More information about these changes will be provided here as it is available.
Infrastructure
With the new DWA applications will come hundreds more users (for example, teachers) and a tremendous increase in traffic to the new centralized databases. To support the increased demand on our network and to ensure that user workstations meet the requirements of the new applications, the IT (Information Technology) Department is undergoing a massive project to upgrade the district's technology infrastructure.
As part of this infrastructure upgrade, IT is conducting a survey of computers at all schools and offices in the district that will use the DWA applications. The purpose of this survey is to identify any equipment that must be upgraded or purchased to support the DWA. They will check the hardware and software on each computer, then place a colored dot on it to indicate that it has been checked. Please do not remove the dot! This helps in identifying the computer when IT returns at a later date to install additional software, upgrade hardware components, or replace the computers as required. Please note that it is not within the budget of the DWA to purchase all new computers. Whenever possible, computers not meeting the hardware requirements will be upgraded rather than replaced.
For more information on the infrastructure upgrades that IT is conducting, see the IT Kick-Off Presentation given in February. (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.)
