The
staff parking lot is only for Miller Staff.
Two visitor spots are designated and are to be used for short-term
parking, less than 15 minutes, and are only to be used for emergency
parking such as picking up a sick child.
Please have your child cross at the crosswalk monitored by the
safety patrol. The School
Safety Patrol is on duty before and after school but will not be on duty
for students who remain on campus to eat lunch on Thursdays.
There is no patrol for intersession dates.
BICYCLES
Students
in Grades 4 and 5 may ride bicycles to school.
Bicycles should be licensed with the San Diego Fire Department.
They must be locked in the bike rack.
Students must wear helmets. The
school is not responsible for lost or damaged bicycles.
Skateboards, scooters, skates, rollerblades and roller shoes are
not allowed on school campus.
ABSENCES

Students
are expected to be in class on time each day school is in session.
According
to State law, the reason for a student’s absence must be verified.
This
information is used by the State in helping to determine financial
assistance for the School District. When
your child is absent, please call the school office at 858.496.8319 on the first
day of absence. If you are unable to call the office, please send a note to
the school office.
CONTRACT
FOR INDEPENDENT STUDY (CIS)
A
Contract for Independent Study may be requested from the office a minimum
of one week in advance of the student’s absence.
The parent completes the agreement and assignment form. The day
before the absence, the pink copies, along with the assignments, will be
sent home with the students. The
student should complete the work during the absence.
The first day the student returns to school, completed assignments
should be turned in to the classroom teacher.
The student will be given credit as an excused absence upon
completion of the contract. A
student with an Independent Contract will NOT receive credit for perfect
attendance.

the following times as minimum minutes per night of homework for each
child.

Kindergarten 15 minutes

-
Second Grade
25 minutes
-
Third Grade 30 minutes
-
Fourth Grade 40 minutes
-
Fifth Grade 40 minutes
We

sent back to school. Some

completed during the week, parental assistance, etc.
LIBRARY
INFORMATION

Learning
to use the library and being responsible for their books is an important
part of your child’s academic career.
By signing the library card, you consent to helping your child be
responsible for the books he or she has checked out.
Students in Kindergarten and First grade will be allowed to check
out one book for one week. Students
in second through fifth grades will be allowed to check out two books for
two weeks. Classes will visit
the library every week, and books must be returned before new books are
checked out. The library does
not charge overdue fines, but any lost or damaged books must be paid for
before library privileges are restored.
Please be aware of your child’s library day and help them
remember to return all library materials.
It is a fun and positive experience to check out a book with the
rest of the class. By
returning books on time, many hours are saved in writing overdue notices.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
SCHOOL
NURSE
A
certified nurse is assigned to Miller on the basis of our enrollment.
Our nurse carries out activities directed toward finding health
issues and assisting parents to seek appropriate correction.
The nurse does not diagnose illness, and will contact parents to
pick up their child from school when such action is necessary for the
child and for the protection of others.
The nurse will be happy to confer with parents regarding health
problems of children. It is also important that the nurse will be made
aware of any health conditions your child may have.
If your child has any food allergies, a note from the doctor is
required so that food services can make the necessary change to your
child’s menu.
This is done
on a yearly basis.
Medication:
In
order for students to take medication at school, the medication must be
brought to the nurse’s office in an original pill container with a
physician’s order accompanying the medication. Prescriptions must be
renewed on a yearly basis.
EMERGENCIES
/ STUDENT SAFETY
Each
parent should discuss with his or her child rules of walking to and from
school. Should your child go
to a friend’s home to play first? Should
your child take a ride from another person you may not know?
What should your child do if you are unable to pick up your child
or will be late getting home? If
it starts to rain during the day, what should your child do? We are unable to interrupt class time to deliver messages to
students. Students are not allowed to use the office phone after school to
make arrangements for after school activities or arrangements.
DISCIPLINE CODE/SCHOOL-HOME COMPACT/ZERO TOLERANCE
The
Miller Discipline Code and Information for Parents is sent home at the
beginning of the school year or at the time of registration.
Please read them, sign and return all signature pages to school.
6 TO 6
The 6 to 6 program is called PrimeTime, the provider is
Harmonium. Please direct your questions to 858.496.1923.
LOST
AND FOUND
All
lost and found articles are in our Lost and Found cart located in the
auditorium. Please check
there for any items your child may lose during the school year.
It would be helpful if all clothing is marked with the child’s
name. More valuable items
(watches, rings, wallets) are kept in the office.
All items not claimed at the end of each trimester will be donated
to charity.
VISITORS AT SCHOOL
All
visitors to the school campus are required to register at the school
office and pick up a visitor's pass. If prior arrangements have
not been set up with the teacher, we ask that parents or visitors go
into classrooms before and after school and during recess and lunch
times only. Minor friends and relatives are not allowed to spend
school days with students.
TRANSFERS
If
you and your family will be transferring out of the area, and your
children will be leaving Miller, please notify the school office two weeks
in advance. We need the
name(s) of the student(s), last day of attendance, and destination.
