The Ballard Parent Center funding source is Title I, parent involvement monies, enabling the staff to provide technical support to all Title I schools. Collaboration with district programs and public agencies provides the flexibility to work with the community and all schools. As researcher Vivian Johnson notes, "Having a special place for parents symbolically changes the role of parents from outsiders (invited guests) to insiders (members of the team)." Source: Teamwork Makes The Dream Work! Research confirms that a comprehensive approach to parent involvement increases not only the amount but also the quality of parent involvement. It also shows that parent involvement is important at all levels of schooling, elementary, middle/junior high and high school.
