A variety of parent classes are planned
throughout the year and are held on Mondays,
12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Sessions for discussion include:
ï the learning process
ï creating an environment that supports
achievement
ï effective ways to encourage, praise, and
communicate!
Learning Skills Development For Parents
and Grandparents
U.S. Citizenship Classes For Lao Speakers
(Open to Other Language Groups)
Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
This course stresses the importance of
regular school attendance, and teaches effective
study and homework strategies. It develops a
parent's capacity of comprehension in the areas
of English, Literacy, Geography, U.S. History,
and Government as they link to the overall
political structure and educational system in
the United States. This course is a foundation
for successfully completing the U.S. Citizenship
examination and interview process.
English Learner
Community-Based English Tutoring Program
Morning Session: Monday through Thursday, 9:00
a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Evening Session: Monday through Wednesday, 6:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- This class provides English As a Second
Language (ESL) instruction to parents to
enable them to help their children succeed in
school. The teacher also models strategies
for reading to children, helping them with
homework, and other activities that lead to
success in school. In exchange for the no
cost sessions, attendees pledge to tutor a
student who is also an identified English
Learner. Free childcare is provided.
