Welcome to the San Diego Unified
School District! This website is designed to give you the general
assignment and employment information required to be
a successful visiting teacher in the district. San Diego Unified School District is the second largest district in the State of California with a student enrollment of more than 136,000 serving preschool through the twelfth grade level. There are 219 schools in our district - 113 elementary, 23 middle/junior (6-9), 27 senior high schools (9-12), 14 alternative/continuation schools (K-12), 25 charter schools, two schools for students with special needs and 24 Child Development Center sites. There are also 13 Central Offices supporting teaching and learning in the schools. As a large urban school district, we serve a culturally and ethnically diverse student population and we are committed to academic and social excellence for all students. This is achieved by the high standards of both our approximately 9,240 teachers and 7,465 support personnel who are actively involved in carrying out the mission of San Diego Unified School District. Adhering to the same high standards, our visiting teachers are also considered an integral part of the educational program and learning community. We ask that while you are with us, you assume the same responsibilities as the contracted members of our certificated faculty. Again, Welcome to San Diego Unified School District! Sincerely, Toren Allen Operations Manager Human Resource Services Division |
