bound
by Wightman Street on the north, Landis Street on the south, 38th
Street
on the west, and the alleyway between 39th and 40th Streets on the east
(a.k.a. Preferred Site). |

Purpose: Cherokee Point Elementary has eased
overcrowding at
Central Elementary. It also eliminated student overflow at Adams
Elementary, Birney Elementary, Carver Elementary and Clay Elementary.

New school size: The new school can accommodate 700
students in grades K-5 on 6.7 acres.

Acquisition
and relocation: The
new school required the acquisition of 38 parcels, and the relocation
of 132
households consisting of 409 residents. Of the 132 households, 12 used
their
relocation funds to become first-time homeowners.

Name of
new school: The name "Cherokee Point" was selected by the
community.
It is the name of the surrounding neighborhood area, in which the
streets
create the shape of an arrowhead. |

Campus features: 32
classrooms, 59,700 square feet of facilities, 6.7 acres, 70 parking
spaces,
100+ trees, joint-use field for soccer and baseball, multipurpose room,
library/media center, lunch shelter, elevator and accessibility
features,
kitchen, faculty lounge, workroom, administrative
center, and energy-efficient design features. |
