Purpose:
Mary Lanyon Fay Elementary will ease overcrowding at Jackson
Elementary
and Marshall Elementary. It will also eliminate a student overflow
annex at Mann Middle School.

New school size: The new school will accommodate 700
students in grades K-5 on 6.3 acres.

Acquisition
and relocation: The
new school required the acquisition of 42 parcels, and the relocation
of 169
households consisting of 608 residents. Of the 169 households, 8 used
their
relocation funds to become first-time homeowners. |

Name of new
school: The school is named for a well-known civic leader and one
of the longest serving Board of Education members. Fay was appointed in
1937, served as president and vice president for 18 years, and
advocated for the hiring of the first African-American teachers.
