The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a parent committee that advises the English Learner programs at Wangenheim. Our president, Teresa Castillo, and Ms. Reyes, Vice Principal, lead the committee. Our four main tasks are to review the instructional services and resources available to English Learners, administer a schoolwide needs assessment, complete the annual language census survey, and review the importance of good attendance with parents. One of our most successful meetings this year was the annual English Learner Awards Ceremony, which we celebrated the night of Open House. Mrs. Kosich, Mrs Garcia-Farmer, Mrs. Nelson-Morris, and Ms. Chon presented awards to their beginning, intermediate and advanced ESL students in the areas of Excellence in Reading and Writing, Most Improved, and Best Attendance. We all enjoyed pizza, salad, and exciting raffle prizes.
