7th Grade Science:

Topics:

1) science safety and equipment
2) scientific method
3 ) cell biology
4 ) genetics
5 ) ecology and evolution
6) earth history
7) structure & function in living systems
8) physical principles in living systems

Science 7 is a year long program that aligns with state standards in science which focus on topics in life science. Some of the topics to be studied include: cells and other microscopic life, genetics, body systems, ecology and evolution. The new text book for this class is called Science and Life Issues. This course will emphasize science process and thinking skills while reinforcing the math and content reading strategies that are necessary in the study of science.

2) Physics: Motion, Forces and Density
3) Astronomy: Earth's Moon, Solar System, Stars and Galaxies

Each student in advanced science is required to do an individual Science Fair Project. This will include research, design, and extensive data collection during a well planned experiment. This is a requirement of Advanced Science and is a significant part of the class grade ( 30%). A detailed timeline will be provided with due dates. It is extremely important to keep up as this is a very involved, long term project. We will be working on the projects most of the school year. There is time spent in class on instructions for each section, but the project itself is done at home. Expect revision, editing, and research requiring access to a computer.
